Dora Gabay
Sculptor
Dora is a Venezuelan native artist with solid sculpting experience in the human form and expressions. Her collection called criollismo shows Venezuelan women in a profound contact with their roots, they make you believe that they can play drums, make arepas, dance, take care of their parrots and laugh. They seem to come to life by just looking at them.
Her stilt men, aerialists, ice-cream vendors are a creation from her fantasy, happy world. These sculptures have the ability to make you believe they are breathing, flying, dancing and having fun. Watch closely, as you will experience the illusion that Dora Gabay’s sculptures can whisper to your senses.
The next chapter begins when the artist searches in her childhood since her father’s skillful fingers trained her on the difficult craft of origami, the ancient and universal Japanese art of delicate and precise folding of paper. In some of her dazzling aerialists we can already observe some traces of origami. Now, it is Dora Gabay’s turn to move her own talented fingers to take this precision based Japanese craft to the maximum fulfillment of emotions and expressions.
Although, her pieces have found several homes in many countries, the artist firmly believes that her peak on this field has yet to be reached.
